Alberta RCMP are looking for other victims as well as the perpetrator of a meat-buying scam after 16 people were allegedly defrauded out of approximately $60,000.
Three Hills RCMP initiated a fraud investigation in December of 2023 involving a meat purchase scam.
“The victim arranged a large meat order with a company named DBL Meats. The company was reported to be based in Kelowna, British Columbia, and was said to provide fresh farm products to customers in Canada,” police said in a release issued Wednesday, Nov. 20.
Police said 16 people e-transferred about $60,000 to the company for products that were not delivered as promised.
“Investigation has determined DBL Meats is not a legitimate company and had fraudulently obtained money from the victims,” police said.
Krysta-Lyn Williams, a 36-year-old female resident of Penticton, British Columbia has been charged with fraud over $5,000. A warrant for her arrest has been issued.
“Three Hills RCMP believes there are more victims of this meat scam,” police said.
