Students recognized

Five Mountain View County students have been recognized for their efforts to improve and promote their respective communities.

Five Mountain View County students have been recognized for their efforts to improve and promote their respective communities.

The recipients of the county's 2013 Citizenship Awards were presented at the June 3 policies and priorities committee meeting.

The recipients are Melissa Pochapsky, Isabelle Charise Flinn, RaeAnn Dawn Edwards, Cassandra Elizabeth Nysten and Jessica Pereversoff.

Reeve Bruce Beattie and councillors presented the recipients with commemorative certificates.

• Pochapsky has attended Didsbury High School. She has been a longtime member of 4-H, and has been involved sports, school clubs and the band program. She plans to attend Olds College's Animal Health Technician program.

• Flinn has attended Olds High School. She has volunteered at her church's nursery and has assisted with summertime vacation bible school programs and with non-profit organizations. She plans to pursue a career in media arts.

• Edwards has attended Sundre High School. She been involved in 4-H, as well as with her school's Nutrition for Learning program and the leadership club. She plans to become a school teacher.

• Nysten has attended Hugh Sutherland School in Carstairs. She has been involved in competitive sports, in 4-H, and in volunteer work. She plans to pursue a career as a pediatrician.

• Pereversoff has attended Cremona High School. She has been involved in student council, her church's youth group, sports, music, and volunteer work. She plans to pursue studies in music.
