Mountain View County council has approved plans to upgrade the audiovisual system in council chambers as well as in the Bearberry Room meeting area in the county office.

The approval of the upgrade project came during the Oct. 6 regularly scheduled council meeting. The approval authorizes expenditures of up to $90,000 to be funded through the office equipment reserve.

The upgrades are needed to extend the functionality and life of the chamber sound and visual system, administration said in a note to council.

The upgrades of the council chamber will include an upgraded cordless remote control, the addition of two new speakers to improve the noise-cancellation of the system, upgrades of the document camera, upgrades of the audio recording equipment, and upgrades of the microphones for presenters.

Changes to the Bearberry Room would include the addition of wireless remote control of the audiovisual system.

Coun. Angela Aalbers said upgrading the chamber and room is necessary.

“I think it's a lot of money, but this is the cost,” said Aalbers.

The Bearberry Room is used as an emergency operations centre during county emergencies, as well as a general meeting room.
