About 2,000 people took in the 63rd annual Water Valley Stampede Rodeo on June 3, 4 and 5, with guests and competitors enjoying excellent weather for a second straight year.
“It was well attended and everyone enjoyed the great weather (clear and highs in the mid 20s),” said committee member Hillary Hahn.
Water Valley's very own Abbie Lashmore, Rilyne Tetz and Karlee Tetz won the wild pony race.
The other winners of the various events were as follows:
• Wyatt Thurston of Big Valley won the saddle bronc event with a 72 score on Lonesome Nights. Casey Vernon finished second with a 66 score.
• Dayton Johnston of Milk River won the bull riding event with an 80 score on Gravity.
• Justin Myers of Lacombe won the bareback event with a 76 score on Sunday Stepper. Branden Dillman finished second with a 70 score, and Michael Douglas finished third with a 61 score.
• Bryce Kulbacki of Red Willow won the calf roping event with a 9.5-second time. Sloan Smith finished second with a 9.8- second time, and Harlee Wilson finished third with an 11.2- second time.
• Johnathan Klein won the novice horse riding event with a 63 score on Minnie Magoo.
• Taylor Giles of Cochrane won the ladies barrel racing with a 16.401 time. Sasha Noval finished second with a 16.429 time, and Honora Jackson Roe finished third with a 16.47 time.
• Jewel Pollock of Rocky Mountain House won the junior barrel racing event with a 16.56 time. Mackenzie Aranas finished second with a 16.820 time, and Reese Pollitt finished third with a 16.824 time.
• Pat Griffin and John Owens of Cochrane won the team roping event with a 5.5-second time.
• Matthew Howard of Munson won the steer riding event with a 76 score. Dixon Tattrie finished second with a 73 score, and Brandon Tetz finished third with a 70 score.
• Jeff Heggie of Cardston won the steer wrestling event with a 5.5 time. Bart Doan finished second with a 6.6 time, and Taylor Weinberger finished third with a 6.8 time.
• Harleigh Henderson of Alix won the peewee barrel racing event with a 17.813 time. Teagan Brink finished second with a 17.869 time, and Rhyatte McConnell finished third with an 18.670 time.
• Bruce Burrell and Lyn Friesen of Sundre won the wild cow milking event.
• Tom Foster of Sundre won the wild horse race.
• There were no qualified rides in the junior bull riding event.
Plans will soon be underway for the 64th annual Water Valley Rodeo in 2017, she said.
