The Olds Grizzlys are officially on the upcoming AJHL schedule, opening the 2017-2018 with three exhibition matches, followed by 60 regular season games, including 31 at home.
EXHIBITION GAMES
The Grizzlys will hit the ice in an away exhibition game against Drayton Valley on Wednesday, Aug. 30, then reciprocate, hosting the Thunder at home on Friday, Sept. 1, before heading to Okotoks to face the Oilers.
REGULAR SEASON
The 2017-18 AJHL regular season will consist of 16 teams, playing 60 games apiece. The Grizzlys will hit the road mid-September, opening the season against the Calgary Canucks on Sunday, Sept. 17, before a three-game home series against the Whitecourt Wolverines, Calgary Canucks and Brooks Bandits beginning Friday, Sept. 22.
PLAYOFFS
The Grizzlys' regular season play finishes with a home game against the Calgary Mustangs on March 3, and the AJHL playoffs will begin on Thursday, March 8. The top team in each division will receive a first round bye, with a three-round playoff series to determine division champions. The north and south division champions will go on to face each other in the AJHL finals.
The 2018 playoffs mark the end of using the Western Canada Cup as a qualifier for national playoffs. Instead the AJHL champion will advance to a best-of-seven series against the BCHL champion. The winner will move on to represent the west at the national junior A championships in Chilliwack, B.C. May 12-20, 2018, vying for the 2018 RBC Royal Bank Cup.
2018-2019
Coach Dana Lattery said that while this year's schedule is fairly typical, similar to last year's, things will switch up next season. For 2018ñ2019, the AJHL will move to a full interlock schedule, in which all 16 teams will play each opponent four times.
