DIDSBURY – The Didsbury Dragons 7-man football team put forth a strong effort in their semifinal matchup with the Strathmore Badgers on Saturday on the road but fell short.
Head coach Mark Lefebvre said the team played well and were close for one half before struggling in the second.
“We started off really well,” he said. “We had a great game at the start. First quarter we were up 14-12. Even at halftime we were only down 21-14. In the second half we got some injuries and the wheels fell off. We got our backups in the fourth quarter and got them some playing time in the playoffs.”
The final score was Strathmore 61-20 over Didsbury. Despite the final score being lopsided, Lefebvre was pleased with the team's effort.
“Up until the time we started getting some injuries we were right there,” he said. “We had a chance. They had a deeper bench then we did. We once again got to the place where we didn't have anyone healthy left to put in the game. We just ran out of bodies.”
Lefebvre said the players were very positive and happy after the game with the result. He pointed out the standout performance of graduating receiver/cornerback Logan Visser. “He played really hard and had a lot of great catches as well as a touchdown and an interception,” he said. “He went out and played his last game the way he wanted to.”
