Both junior lacrosse teams are headed into their final week of regular season play leading their respective divisions in the Rocky Mountain Lacrosse League.

The Olds Mavericks lead the south west division of the Tier II south conference with three home games remaining. Their only losses this season were to the Lethbridge Cudas, who are undefeated and lead the south central division.

After their final game next Wednesday (June 28), the entire conference will be ranked, with the top eight teams advancing to playoffs, and the top two earning a bye in the first round.

The Mavericks were downed by Lethbridge a second time this season last Sunday (June 11), making it impossible to jump to the top of the leaderboard, but head coach Andy Sweetman says there's no reason to believe they won't grab that playoffs bye.

"I'm sure the boys are not happy with the result today," said Sweetman after the painful 10-11 loss, "We're going to make sure we make a statement with our last five games, and blow over the competition and run the tables so we can guarantee ourselves second spot."

Meanwhile, the Tier III Olds Stingers are undefeated this season in their four-team division, and will head to provincials after their final regular home game this Sunday.

The Mavs play Friday at 8 p.m., Sunday at 1:30 p.m., and next Wednesday, June 28 at 8 p.m. The Olds Stingers play Sunday at 4 p.m. All games are at the Olds Sportsplex and admission is free.
