The Olds Amateur Football Association's pee wee team is almost ready to start its 2016 season. The Huskies held its equipment sign-out on Aug. 10, distributing gear behind Olds High School.
Carl Haubrich is the team's coach and says about 15 kids have registered so far. That figure is lower than usual but it could rise, as the team didn't hold its first practice until Aug. 15, giving more time for players to sign up.
Their season starts Sept. 10 with a home game at Normie Kwong Park versus the Rocky View Rage.
There should be many teachable moments for Haubrich, who expects to have a team full of rookie players. He will be responsible for teaching them everything from rules to basic skills.
"It's a blast; you can have a lot of fun and it's not super serious. As long as everybody's having fun," he says.
At press time, OAFA was still taking registrations and would like to have a final list of players by the end of the month.
