Former Canadian Football League player and Toronto Argonauts head coach Michael “Pinball” Clemons will be the keynote speaker of the 2017 Olds College Growing the Legacy Gala, a major fundraising event for the institution.

The black tie event, focused on innovation, will take place on Friday, March 24, 2017 at the Ralph Klein Centre. The official name for next year's event is the Olds College 2017 Growing the Legacy Gala: Inspire, Innovate, Ignite.

Clemons, a CFL legend, was recently inducted into Canada's Sports Hall of Fame and is widely respected as an icon of sporting excellence, community leadership and personal integrity.

Considered one of the best athletes Canada has ever known, his real legacy may well lie with the thousands of people he has inspired, both on and off the field.

Clemons is only five feet six inches tall and weighs 170 pounds. Despite this -- perhaps because of this -- he had a spectacular CFL career, obliterating records and winning Grey Cups with the Toronto Argonauts as both a player and their head coach.

In keeping with tradition, two of the college's most esteemed students have been selected as Olds College 2017 Gala ambassadors and will serve as masters of ceremonies for the event.

They are Cassidy Holt, a second-year student of the ag management program and captain of the Broncos women's hockey team, and Rachele Clavagnier, a first-year student in the fashion marketing program.

“To be one of the Olds College Gala ambassadors is such an exciting opportunity,” Clavagnier says. “Being able to not only represent an excellent institute, but in particular the fashion institute at our Calgary campus is such an incredible honour and privilege."

“It is an absolute honour to be the Olds College Gala ambassador,” Holt adds. “I'm looking forward to working with Rachele and I'm excited to experience the event. I know it will be unforgettable."
