Local hammer thrower Andreas Troschke is continuing his winning ways, now at the university level.

Troschke, a former Olds High School student, is now attending the University of Lethbridge, where he's a member of the U of L Pronghorns. He's in first year of business management at the U of L.

On Jan. 20, Troschke competed in his first indoor university track meet Jan. 20 during the Golden Bear Open, hosted by the University of Alberta.

He won the open/university class weight throw with a throw of 16.01 m.

"That is a freshman beating the best from the west who could be up to four years older than he," Troschke's dad, Ralph, his former coach, says.

The elder Troschke says that result placed Andreas third in the nation under USport (formerly CIS) rankings.
