It was dust and mud and the roar of a Sunday crowd at the Olds Regional Exhibition grounds this weekend, as cowboys and -girls from around the province were centre stage at the Alberta High School Rodeo Association provincial championships.
The AHSRA has 360 high school members who compete in three districts – north, central and south. The top 12 in each event from each district qualify for provincials. The top six move on to the Canadian nationals championships while the top four head to the National High School Rodeo Association finals in the U.S.
Olds had a lone qualifier this weekend, Erika Olsen, who competed in poles. She finished 27th in the group on Day 1 with a time of 22.928, 18th on Day 2 with a time of 21.956, and 31st on Day 3 with a time of 33.414.
