A total of 11 athletes from Olds High School will be participating in the Junior South Central Zone Track and Field Championships on June 5 in Calgary. They qualified for the event by finishing first or second at the Mountain View County Championships in Didsbury on May 22.
Victoria Wagstaff finished first in her age category in the 3,000 metres and finished just out of the qualifying spot in the 1,500, placing third. Janelle Graham finished first in her age category in the 100 and 200 metres and second in the 400 metres and four-by-100 metre relay. Jayna Templeton finished second in her age category in the 800 metres and just missed qualifying for the 400 metres, finishing third. Riley Jensen was part of a four-by-100 relay team that finished second and Matthew Gaudette won his age group's 800-metre run.
Katie Collin qualified for the zone meet in the shot put, finishing second, while she finished third in the high jump and fourth in the javelin throw. Taylor Orrmann qualified for the zone meet as part of a four-by-100 relay team that finished second. Janine Nel finished first in her category in the pole vault, while also qualifying for the zone meet by being part of the four-by-100 relay team.
Baylen Unger finished second in the triple jump, William Riseg qualified for the zone meet by winning his category of the shot put and finished just out of the qualifying spot in the javelin throw, placing third. Thomas Rosenberger qualified for three events at the zone meet: he placed first in the javelin throw, first in the discus throw and second in the 100 metres.
Several members of the Olds Koinonia Christian School track team will also be attending the zone championships. Jewel Stewart finished second in the Grade 7 girls 100 metres, and Zac Longstaff topped the Grade 7 boys 200 metres and javelin throw. Sydney Wood finished first in the girls Grade 8 high jump while Bryce Parrot finished second in the boys 1,500 metres, 800 metres and the high jump while Kayla Jansen topped the Grade 8 girls javelin.
Anna Crowe finished first in the Grade 9 girls long jump, second in the triple jump and second in the 100 metres. Eithan Moench finished first in the Grade 9 boys triple jump, second in the long jump, second in the high jump and second in the discus. Nate Weins finished second in the Grade 9 boys 3,000 metres.
