McTavish joins Burke for hockey fundraiser

A second well-known person has been confirmed for a major hockey fundraiser coming to Olds next month.

Craig McTavish, VP of hockey operations from the Edmonton Oilers will join Calgary Flames president of hockey operations Brian Burke as hot stove speakers for the Every Kid Every Community Speaker Series, which takes place Feb. 2 at the Pomeroy Inn & Suites and later at the Olds Sportsplex, where the Olds Grizzlys will host the Camrose Kodiaks.

"We've got Craig McTavish and Brian Burke for our two headliners for our event, which should be great; appeals to all of the Oilers fans, all the Flames fans," Olds Minor Hockey Association president Mike Pieper says.

"Maybe we can get a little back and forth going between those two guys, maybe even facilitate a trade or something, I'm not sure," he adds with a laugh. "We'll see."

Tickets to the event are $50 each, or $400 for a table of eight. Tickets can be purchases by visiting www.hockeyalbertafoundation.ca. Doors open at 5 p.m. at the Pomeroy, with a Hockey Hot Stove set for 6:15 with Burke and McTavish. The event also features a silent auction and a 50/50 draw.

Following the hot stove, a shuttle service to the Olds Sportsplex will be provided from 7:30-8:30 p.m. to attend the Grizzlys-Kodiaks game.

Pieper says Burke and McTavish will participate in an autograph session at the Grizzlys game during the first intermission as well.

Each ticket includes:

* One entry into the Every Kid Every Community Speaker Series at the Pomeroy

* Complimentary wings, courtesy of the Pomeroy Inn & Suites

* One beverage, courtesy of the Olds College Brewery

* One fair market value tax receipt

* One ticket to the Olds College Broncos game against the NAIT Ooks on Feb. 1 (non-transferable)

* One ticket to the Olds Grizzlys-Kodiaks game (non-transferable)

* The complimentary shuttle service mentioned above

Proceeds from this event will go towards the Every Kid Every Community program, Olds Minor Hockey, the Olds College Broncos and the Olds Grizzlys.
