DIDSBURY - The Didsbury Jets were crowned Tier 3 mosquito provincial champions at home on July 23 after beating Castor 9-1 in the final.

The Jets ended up hosting provincials at Memorial Park at the last minute when no other venue was secured.

Head coach Cody Walker said the boys were thrilled when they knew they were going to take the crown.

"It went pretty good," said Walker. "It was a last-minute thing hosting. There was no place to host. No one would host or didn't have diamonds. We got in there and made it happen."

Walker said they only had a couple of days to put on the provincial tournament but things went pretty smoothly.

"It came together pretty well," he said. "It all went well. I haven't heard any complaints."

The team really played well together during the weekend, he said.

"We had a good effort from everyone," he said. "We knew we had a shot at it if we played hard. I expected to have a chance."

In the round-robin portion of the tournament the Jets had a win and a loss. The team beat Daysland 11-10 in its opener and then fell to Castor 18-12.

In the semifinals The Jets came out strong and beat Innisfail 10-7 to advance to the championship game on the Sunday afternoon.
