Team Alberta hockey player Hannah Mousek, formerly of Sundre and now living in Olds, and her teammates went undefeated to win the gold medal at the Canada Winter Games in Halifax.

Mousek plays defence with the Red Deer Sutter Fund Chiefs Midget AAA squad and is back involved in league playoffs this week.

Mousek returned from the 2011 Canada Winter Games with a noticeably heavier set of luggage after striking gold as part of the province's winning female hockey team.

A 3-2 victory over Ontario the gold medal game at the Halifax Metro Centre capped off a perfect tournament for the Wildrose province, finishing 7-0 over the course of the weeklong event.

Mousek was part of the team's defence corps that surrendered only five goals throughout the week.

Offensively she posted only a single assist over seven games playing, adding a helper in the 6-2 semifinal win over Saskatchewan.

The team's gold medal helped Team Alberta to a fourth overall finish in the medal table with 20 gold, 25 silver and 30 bronze. Quebec won the medal count with 137 ahead of Ontario's 110 and British Columbia's 88.

Mousek said in an interview with the Round Up before leaving for Halifax that the team's goal was to capture gold.

In addition to winning gold, the team inflicted the first-ever losses on Team Ontario since the inception of the female hockey tournament at the Canada Winter Games.
