Grade 10 students Jenna Kardos and Braylene Worley took home silver in junior girls doubles at the 2017 Alberta Schools Athletic Association provincial badminton championships, held May 5ñ6 in Red Deer.

The girls finished second in their junior division round robin pool, pushing them into the eight-team Category A playoffs. They won their quarter- and semifinal matches in two games straight, before losing the gold medal set to the same duo from Harry Ainlay High in Edmonton who bested them in the round robin.

OHS athletic director Wanda Vandervelden said it has been a very long time since an OHS badminton player or team has brought home a provincial medal in the tier 1 division.

ìTo win silver in the A division of the tournament is an amazing feat,î said Vandervelden. ìThis is a prime example of what dedicated hard work and good teamwork can accomplish. The girls attended every practice and were able to put their individual strengths together to make a great team.î
