The Innisfail Pee Wee AA Legion Flyers went all the way to semi finals during provincial hockey tournament in Grand Prairie March 16 to 18.
The team of 16 lost their first game Friday night to Camrose 10-4. Camrose went on to win the overall tournament.
"We were 4-4 after the second but they took over in third," said Dez Lorencz, team manager of the first game of the weekend. He said this was the first time this group of players, lead by new head coach Landon Russell, made it to provincials.
Saturday morning the team went up against Stony Plain and won 6-2. They moved on Saturday night where they had to tie or win to move onto semi finals.
"We were down 5-1 going into third then tied 6-6," he explained.
During semi finals they lost to a last minute goal against Fort Saskatchewan 5-6.
"We had a good seasons. We ended up top eight of 15 for the league," he said. "We went further this year then people thought."
Twelve of the kids will move onto the bantam level, with flour players to remain in pee wee next season.
Jeremy Klessens, lead the south central league with goal scoring with 51 and additional 11 goals during provincials.
