Eighteen athletes from Sundre High School's track and field team are participating in the provincial championship in Calgary this weekend.

“They will be contending for their fifth provincial championship,” said coach Judy Jackson.

Last Tuesday, 50 athletes participated in the South Central Zone meet in Calgary.

“They came home with their eighth consecutive zone championship,” she said, adding that participant Dallas Wild “led the field”.

Wild placed first in three events, which were the discus, the javelin and the triple jump.

“He also placed second in the high jump and scored the highest out of all the athletes at the meet,” she said.

The athletes who qualified for the meet this weekend include Kyle Messervey, Polo Evans, Tate Irving, Chelsea Campkin and Shae Wickwire participating in the pole vault.

Noah Bradley, Dezi Jackson and Angela Leussink will be participating in the hurdles event.
