Two swimmers from Olds will represent Zone 4 at the Alberta Summer Games this week in Leduc.

Twelve-year-old Carson Ogloff and Aiden Morgan, 13, qualified for the zone team at a meet in Red Deer last month.

While Ogloff isn't sure which event he'll participate in, Morgan will swim in the 200-metre individual medley.

The two are teammates on the Innisfail Dolphins, a summer club that only swims four months of the year. At the zone tryouts, they had to compete against swimmers from winter clubs, whose seasons last most of the year.

Both boys spoke highly of their Dolphins coach Amy Andrew, who runs a tough practice that helped get them ready. Ogloff estimates swimming close to 8,000 metres each time.

In Ogloff's case, he also has some winter club experience with the Olds Rapids.

"I was a winter swimmer for a year. I've been swimming since I was four so I've had a lot of training under my belt. And I'm really, really competitive," he said.

The Summer Games caught the swimmers' interest because it would be a chance to meet new people and compete against athletes from across the province.

Even though they play other sports, both consider swimming their strongest sport.

It's also the one that Morgan prefers.

"I just find it to be more of a full body workout and I always have fun. The environment seems more friendly. There's not much trash talk either. Everybody has fun and doesn't worry about the banter," Morgan said.
