River Valley School’s Grade 8 boys’ Eagles volleyball team came home with a silver medal from the J2 South Zones held recently at Wheatland School near Standard. They came in as the underdogs, and surprised the competition with their skill and determination to win, said coach Sonja Logan. There were five teams, and the Grade 8 boys were the only team from RVS to go to zones. Some of the teams they competed against had Grade 9 students playing as well. The girls’ season ender was cancelled due to weather, and they were not able to compete in the rescheduled game due to time conflicts. Their season ended the first week in November. The Grade 6 teams all wrapped up their seasons by the end of October, with no playoffs as their league doesn’t run that way, the coach said.
