Olds High School's football team is starting practice this week to prepare for another season.
The team is still taking players, says head coach George Grant.
However, the Spartans will not have a league to play in, making it the third season since the Big Sky Football League disbanded.
"I'm hoping one will be coming forth. I am now the ASAA football commissioner for the province and one of my side-missions is to try and get Olds and now Drumheller, who are independent as well, get our two teams into a league," Grant says.
One of the ways to do that might include combining leagues, but he expects that to take multiple meetings and rounds of negotiation to materialize.
"We have to do a lot of educating, coaxing I guess, to bring all interested parties to assure everybody the integrity of their program and what they've been doing to this point, is not going to change, other than who their regular season opponents will be," he said.
Team equipment handout takes place on Aug. 25 at 6 a.m., followed by a light practice. A parent meeting will be held Sept. 6 at 6:30 p.m. in the school commons.
