Girls fall short at provincials
The Boarding Kennels Midget Flyers were in Brooks over the St. Patrick's Day weekend competing at a provincial level.
Though they needed to win two games to advance to final playoffs, they only managed one win against Calgary.
The girls tied to Vermillion and Lethbridge and lost to Oyen.
Midget girls manager, Sherry Leppa said coaches were pleased with the girls playing noting that Vermillion and Lethbridge went on to play the gold game and it was against these two teams the girls played some of their best hockey of the year.
On the lighter side, the girls received third in the lip-sync contest that took place at their banquets and first place for the homemade banner they made for their opening ceremonies.
Midget boys lose out at provincials
Innisfail Kinsmen Midget AA Flyers missed their chance to move onto semi finals by one goal during provincial playoffs in Slave Lake during the March 16-18 weekend, said manager Tara Rankin.
The team beat Fort McMurray 8-1 and went on to lose by one point to Olds 4-3. In their third game they tied against Slave Lake 5-5 and were not able to continue.
Soccer champ wins provincials
Innisfail's Sidney Daines, team captain for the Red Deer Renegades soccer team, lead her team to provincial victory March 18. Daines have five goals in four games including the winning goal in the gold medal final win over Edmonton Scottish 3-2. The U18 team beat Edmonton Raiders 8-0, Medicine Hat 8-1, Calgary Blizzard 2-1 before beating Edmonton Scottish.
