Spruce View School recently held its annual Athletic Awards, showcasing the school's top athletes for the 2015-16 school year.

“It's a celebration of athletics for the entire year,” said Ken Kure, athletic director. “All of the sports that we do at Spruce View School are included in the event.”

More than 150 parents, teachers and students were in attendance for the awards ceremony on June 14 at Spruce View Hall. The evening also included a banquet and highlights from teams and sporting events throughout the year.

“We had a slide show with clips of each of the sports at the school. It was a great evening,” added Kure.

Awards were presented to students in grades 7 to 12 in cross-country running, golf, high school rodeo, volleyball, basketball, badminton and track and field.

The athletic department also presented the Athlete of the Year to five students in both junior and senior high, in addition to noting the work of coaches, referees, parents and most valuable players.

“There were junior high and senior high male and female athletes of the year. We did have a tie with the high school boys this year,” said Kure, noting junior high female athlete of the year Jade Sinnamon, junior high male athlete of the year Luke Sanche, senior high female athlete of the year Taylor Phillips, and senior high male athletes of the year Cauy Schmidt and Jacob Sanche.

Kure said he was pleased with the accomplishments of all students this season.

“We recognize and celebrate the achievements of a number of individuals and the teammates, officials, coaches, and parents who have been an integral part of our successes in athletics at Spruce View School.”
