In the sports world, silver comes with mixed feelings because you lose to win it. In this case, the Pistols fell 10-3 to the Nosecreek Chaos in the final game.

"I've said several times in my sporting life, silver is a very difficult pill to swallow at times," said Pistols coach Jordan Cleland.

However, finishing in second place was something to celebrate for this team, which Cleland said was made up of girls who had only played C-level ball until this season.

"Our girls were quite happy with silver and it's quite rare for me to say, but as their coach, I was also very happy with silver," he said.

"There were no tears in the final meeting in the outfield after the game. There were actually a few smiles and satisfaction."

The Pistols finished 4-0 in the round robin, including a 10-6 victory over the Chaos.

Cleland said he enjoyed coaching both softball and a girls-only team for the first time, one that "battled like crazy."

Their goal was to win the provincial championship. Though they fell just shy, he said he didn't sense any deep disappointment from his team.

"This group was a very hard-working and resilient team."
