The number of rinks participating in the Sundre Curling Club’s annual women’s bonspiel has in recent years remained fairly steady.

There were 17 teams — primarily hailing from Sundre and Cremona — who came to the Sundre Curling Rink for the event, which ran from Feb. 8-11.

"Last year we had 20, and the year before we had 17 as well,” said Kristin MacKenzie, women’s league rep as well as an organizer for the bonspiel, which she said, "turned out really well. Everyone had fun.”

Placing first in the A event were skip Darlene Kapiczowski, third Carol Hudec, second Jill Ward, and lead Lynn Bourgonje.

The B event winners were skip Deana Jensen, third Marg Bergsma, second Laurie Blundell, and lead Susan Robertson.

Claiming top spot in the C event were skip Heather Dolan, third Donna Waldroff, second Lacey White, and lead Debbie Messervey.

MacKenzie expressed her gratitude for all of the support from the players and sponsors who made the bonspiel possible.

The next bonspiel — the annual doubles event — is scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 24.
