It was another tough weekend for Olds Broncos athletic teams - except for one game. On Feb. 9, the Broncos women's basketball team beat Red Deer College 78-71. Unfortunately, on Feb. 11, the Queens "rebounded" to defeat the Broncos 66-53.

INNISFAIL - Members of the Innisfail Hurricanes water polo club are working to improve their skills and knowledge of the sport. The club holds intramural games every two weeks to give members some game experience.

INNISFAIL - The senior boys basketball team at Innisfail High School is making slow but steady progress on the courts this season. "Our objective is to make the playoffs," said Allen Traxel, head coach.

INNISFAIL - The Innisfail Eagles took Game 2 of the Chinook Hockey League semifinals in a 6-5 overtime victory Sunday night (Feb. 12) at home. The series against their namesake rivals, the Stony Plain Eagles, is now tied 1-1. "We deserved (the win).

The fact that wrestler and former Olds resident Danielle Lappage made it to the 2016 Olympics last summer has spurred several kids to try out for the Olds High School wrestling team, coach George Grant says.

Two members of the Olds High School wrestling team had great results during their first wrestling meet. Bryer Brertton got a bronze medal in the 83-kilogram class, which featured 10 wrestlers.

Olds Grizzlys forward Landon Gross is the Canalta Hotels AJHL Player of the Week. Gross scored four goals and got two assists in three games during the week of Jan. 23-29.

INNISFAIL - The senior girls basketball team at Innisfail High School is working hard to find success on the court this season.

Colton Goller of Olds, who skipped the Alberta team in the national junior men's championships in B.C. last month is now trying to figure out his curling future.

INNISFAIL - Innisfail's Gerrit Handford and his team, the Olds AA Bantam Grizzlys, took top spot in a recent major tournament. The Grizzlys won the 2017 Pomeroy Inns & Suites Bantam AA Classic in Olds from Jan. 27 to 29.
