More curlers are sweeping their way into the season this year as six new teams have invigorated the league.

The Olds Midget Grizzlys travelled to Strathmore on Friday and won 5-3 in Central Alberta Hockey League action. The Grizzlys got off to a slow start, trailing 2-0 after the first period.

Two Innisfail Jr./Sr. High volleyball squads are heading to playoff competitions in November. With the regular season wrapping up this week, the City girls and the senior girls have qualified to go on to the next round.

The Olds Grizzlys' winless streak has now hit six games with 6-5 and 3-1 losses to the Camrose Kodiaks and Okotoks Oilers, respectively, last week, in Alberta Junior Hockey League play.

The Penhold Amazons defeated the Irma Chargers 5-4 Oct. 27. The Amazons, playing on their home ice at the Penhold Regional Multiplex, dominated on the ice in the second and third periods, said coach Doug Demott. “It was a good game.

The Olds Peewee Huskies were soundly defeated 49-0 by the Stettler Panthers on Saturday at Normie Kwong Park in Central Peewee Football League action.

Emma Malsbury from Penhold and Suze Vanderlinde from Spruce View became friends while playing on the Red Deer Sutter Fund Midget AAA women's hockey team.

The icy weather conditions may have been as miserable as both the peewee and bantam Innisfail Cyclones' seasons, but not everyone saw it that way.

The Didsbury Dragons are going to the championship game after winning last Saturday's football game against the Sundre Capital Pressure Bison 40-9.

The Innisfail Eagles defeated the Sylvan Lake Admirals but lost to the Bentley Generals this weekend, playing back-to-back games Oct. 19 and 20. The Eagles brought down the Admirals in Sylvan Lake 6-3 to kick off their weekend.
