The Olds High School Spartans girls' rugby team got into the win column last week when they beat the Lacombe Composite High School Rams 42-10 in Central Alberta High School Rugby League play. The Spartans now have a 1-2 record on the season.

The Dolphins are back in the water again for their 63rd season of swimming. Last Tuesday was the Innisfail Dolphins Swim Club's first practice of the year and so far, 55 swimmers have signed up.

The Penhold Regional Multiplex played host to two champion trampoline gymnasts recently. Brothers Kyle and Keegan Soehn used the multiplex to train in advance of Olympic qualifying competitions held in April for a few weeks.

Four Innisfail athletes were competing in badminton zones over the weekend in Stettler. The Cyclones earned their spot after an Area 1 Badminton Championship in Sylvan Lake April 24 where they were up against seven different schools.

Students from Chinese Kickboxing Connection brought back medals from a mixed martial arts tournament in Sylvan Lake April 14. The group won four silvers and three golds. Sean Carroll placed second in sparring and first in grappling.

The grassroots sports program is off to a slow start after only four people turned out to a public meeting in Penhold on April 19. “There wasn't a very good turnout,” said Tara Wells, community services manager for the Town of Penhold.
