MOUNTAIN VIEW COUNTY - County council has approved the $13,709,610 project budget for 2022. It sets out projects across the municipality, including road work and upgrade plans.
The move came during the recent regularly scheduled council meeting, held in person and online.
The budget outlines projects in various departments, the majority of the funding going to operational services, but also to chief administrative officer (CAO) services, corporate services, legislative services, and planning and development.
Operational services projects include $600,000 for the asphalt long patching program, $1.68 million on the re-gravel program, $1.5 million on the re-chipping program, $1.1 million on the base stabilization program, $200,000 on the subdivision chip program, $300,000 on the gravel pit stripping program, $870,000 on gravel pit reclamation, and $1 million on the Twp. Rd. 322 overlay project.
One $25,000 legislative services department project involves upgrades to council meeting streaming and agenda software.
“Although Zoom has provided the county with a valuable tool to use during the COVID-19 pandemic, it does not have the added functionality that other programs offer, such as agenda creation, efficient remote attendance for participants, or indexing of items for future review,” said CAO Jeff Holmes.
Other legislative department projects include $40,000 on fencing of county lands, $25,000 on photo/video library replacement, $33,000 on airport and business park signage, $85,000 on Cremona fire - command vehicle program and $35,000 on Water Valley Hall training area.
Councillors voted to not proceed with a $53,650 project that would have created a day use area a the former Campbell pit.
Projects under the CAO Services include $15,000 for the fire preparedness for Bearberry Protection Area.
“This project will include development of a strategic-level wildfire preparedness guide and development of a tactical-level structure plan for the multi-lot subdivisions, rural properties, youth camps, and RV parks-campgrounds in the Bearberry area.”
Corporate service projects include $260,600 for business services hardware and software upgrade.
“The intent of this project is to keep our organizational software and hardware current,” he said. “There will be fluctuations in the yearly purchases based on life cycles of the products purchased and the changing demands of the organization and outside shareholders.”
Another $32,000 project would be for gate access control.
“We will not be replacing any gates,” he said. “We will be increasing security at all four (county) shops by integrating the existing powered gates we have into the door access control system.”
Another $65,000 department project would be for air photo refreshing of properties in the county. The photos are used by several departments.
