MOUNTAIN VIEW COUNTY - Eagle Beef & Multi Club 4-H club members and their supporters are hoping to raise $20,000 or more for the new Kirsten Gardner emergency shelter now under construction in Olds.
Amanda Sande, club leader, says the 75 members of the club are giving back to the community this year through the donation of two animals at the upcoming show and sale.
“Kirsten Gardner was a member that is very near and dear to a lot of members of Eagle Beef & Multi Club, and that is why it was a unanimous decision when it was brought up to raise money with our donation animals to help build the Mountain View shelter that is being built in her memory,” Sande told the Albertan.
Under the fundraising initiative, tickets can be purchased on a steer and a lamb raised by club members.
“We are offering everyone an opportunity to purchase tickets via a Dutch auction at the beginning of the June 6 sale at the Olds Regional Exhibition,” she said.
“You can purchase as many tickets as you like for $10 each. Some businesses and families may donate $500, which would get them 50 tickets in the draw. You will also receive a tax receipt for that.”
Club members and their supporters are “very excited to raise the money this year as the house (shelter) being built is steps away from where our show and sale is happening,” she said.
The sale auction will take place at 7 p.m., where there will be 39 steers and 17 lambs for sale, she said, noting bidding is also available on DLMS.ca.
Kirsten Gardner was murdered by her on-again, off-again boyfriend in March 2021. The new Olds emergency shelter is named in her honour.
