MOUNTAIN VIEW COUNTY - For the third year in a row, Mountain View County Division 5 councillor Angela Aalbers has been elected reeve of the municipality.
Councillors voted to appoint Aalbers the chief elected official of the municipality during the Oct. 25 council organizational meeting. She was the only councillor nominated.
The third-term councillor was the first woman ever elected reeve of the county in 2021, being re-elected to the same position in 2022 and now again in 2023.
"I feel very honoured to have the confidence of my council to once again be appointed chief elected official for Mountain View County," she told the Albertan. "Representing our municipality and the wonderful people within our borders is humbling and very exciting. Council and I look forward to the next year in serving our constituents and reporting on our progress."
Division 1 Coun. Dwayne Fulton was elected deputy reeve for the first time.
Aalbers commended Coun. Greg Harris for serving as deputy reeve over the past two years, adding, "I also want to congratulate deputy reeve Fulton on his appointment. I know he will do an outstanding job as deputy reeve."
The reeve is the municipality’s principal spokesperson and the chair of council meetings. The deputy acts in the reeve’s place when required.
Both the reeve and deputy reeve are elected to one-year terms at the annual organizational meeting.
