Advance poll turnout numbers released for Ponoka-Didsbury, Yellowhead

Over 30 per cent of estimated registered voters in both ridings cast ballots April 18-21

Advance polls for the Ponoka-Didsbury riding were held at the Royal Canadian Legion in Innisfail among other locations.

A total of 27,715 people cast ballots in the federal election advance poll in the new Ponoka-Didsbury riding between April 18 and April 21, according to Elections Canada.

In the new Yellowhead riding 27,666 people cast ballots in the advance poll.

Provincewide, a total of 815,131 advance poll votes were cast.

Nationwide, a total of 7,280,975 votes were cast, including 2,100,273 on April 21.

The new Ponoka-Didsbury riding includes Innisfail, Olds, Didsbury, Bowden and portions of Mountain View and Red Deer counties along with other municipalities.

There are an estimated 79,615 registered electors in the riding.

About 34.8 per cent of Ponoka-Didsbury riding's estimated registered voters cast ballots in advance polls.

The new Yellowhead riding includes Sundre, Carstairs, Cremona, portions of Mountain View and Clearwater counties along with other municipalities.

There are an estimated 91,295 registered electors in the riding.

About 30.3 per cent of the estimated number fo registered Yellowhead voters cast ballots in advance polls.

There are five candidates in Ponoka-Didsbury: Conservative of Canada’s Blaine Calkins, People’s Party of Canada’s Larry Gratton, United Party of Canada’s Grant Abraham, NDP Logan Hooley and unaffiliated candidate Zarnab Zafar.

The are five candidates in Yellowhead: People’s Party of Canada’s Vicky Bayford, Liberal Party of Canada’s Michael Fark, Christian Heritage Party’s Dale Heath, NDP Avni Soma, and Conservative Party of Canada’s William Stevenson.

The general election vote takes place on April 28.
