MOUNTAIN VIEW COUNTY — Area fire department members have been kept busy responding to motor vehicle collisions in the district so far in 2022, council recently heard.
Chris Atchison, director of legislative, community and agricultural services, presented first quarter statistics for regional fire departments during the regular May 11 council meeting.
“It’s fairly consistent for what we would expect for the first quarter, with lots of motor vehicle collisions obviously still in the winter months, as well as grass fires kick-starting in March,” said Atchison.
The Didsbury Fire Department responded to 16 motor vehicle collisions, representing 34 per cent of all calls. The department also responded to four vehicle fires, three structure fires, three mutual aid calls, and seven EMS calls.
The Carstairs department responded to 11 motor vehicle collisions, as well as to two grass fires, nine medical assist calls, six medical first response calls, six mutual aid calls, three structure fires and three vehicles fires.
The Olds department responded to eight motor vehicle collisions, as well as four fire calls and 31 medical calls.
The Sundre department responded to four motor vehicle collisions, as well as eight medical assists and one outdoor fire in a rural area.
The Cremona department did not respond to any motor vehicle collisions. But members did respond to eight medical calls, five fires, three mutual aid calls and four gas leaks.
