MOUNTAIN VIEW COUNTY - Fire departments in the district responded to a total of 32 motor vehicle collisions in the first three moths of 2021, Mountain View County council was told last week.
Chris Atchison, the county’s director of legislative services, outlined fire department statistics as part of his quarterly report, presented during the recent regularly scheduled council meeting.
The report covers activities of the Didsbury, Carstairs, Cremona and Olds departments.
The Didsbury department responded to a total of 47 calls in the first quarter. Those included 11 EMS calls, nine alarms, seven mutual aid calls, eight motor vehicle collisions, two odour investigations, three structure fires and four woodland fires.
Of the total calls, 19 were the rural area and 21 were in town.
The Carstairs department responded to 57 calls. Those included eight alarm fire, four grass fire, 13 medical assist, 12 medical first responses, seven mutual aid, five motor vehicle collisions, two structure fires, and three vehicle fires.
The Cremona/Water Valley department responded to 24 calls, including five for medical, four fires, five mutual aid, three motor vehicle collisions and four alarm bells.
Seventy-nine per cent of the department’s calls were in the rural Mountain View County area.
The Olds department responded to 85 calls, including 64 urban incidents, five rural incidents, and 16 motor vehicle collisions.
“We have had some high levels of grass fires with the dry and windy conditions,” said Atchison. “We have seen some of those grass fires turn into bigger events, requiring some mutual aid.”
