MOUNTAIN VIEW COUNTY - The county’s municipal planning commission (MPC) has approved a permit for a bunkhouse in the Wessex area of Mountain View County.

The move came by way of motion during a commission meeting last month.

The property involved is located on the south side of Township Road 294A, near Range Road 292.

The $200,000 project will see a 1,280 square-foot prefabricated dwelling with a manufacture date of less than 20 years old located at the site.

“It will consist of three bedrooms, two bathrooms, living room, a dining room, and a kitchen, and will be used exclusively for the accommodation of up to three farm workers in conjunction with the agricultural operations on site,” administration said in a briefing note to the commission.

“The proximity of the bunkhouse to the calving barns and pens will facilitate optimized monitoring during calving events. The applicant has adequately demonstrated the necessity for the bunkhouse, which will significantly enhance the fabrication and sustainability of all on-site agricultural operations.”

Bunkhouses can be considered in the agricultural district in conjunction with, and accessory to, the agricultural operations on site, members heard.

The approval comes with a number of conditions, including that the proposed bunkhouse shall be used exclusively for the accommodation of workers in conjunction with the agricultural operations on the site and is not considered to contribute to the dwelling density on the subject property.
