MOUNTAIN VIEW COUNTY - Canada’s sculpture team heading to Minnesota next week for the World Snow Sculpture Championships includes a Mountain View County man.
Bergen area’s Morton Burke is captain of the team which also includes Will Truchon and Christian Denis of Edmonton.
They will be representing Canada and The Atti2ude Club in the Jan. 18-22 event hosted by an international arts organization with artists and arts administrator members from more than 20 countries.
All three have been carving snow for 20 years or more in events around the world, Burke said in a news release.
The local was part of a team that won gold in China at the 36th Harbin International Ice and Snow Sculpture Festival in 2020.
The Atti2ude Club’s sculpture for this year’s event in Stillwater, Minnesota is titled “The Big Four.” The entry will depict four iconic big game animals from North America, big horn sheep, buffalo, bear and moose carved on a background of forest and mountains.
Burke said they feel honoured to be participating in the elite event and hope to create a sculpture that will be enjoyed by attendees.
A total of 12 teams will vie for the coveted title of world champions.
The event is endorsed by The International Association of Snow and Ice Sculpture based in Finland.
