MOUNTAIN VIEW COUNTY - Mountain View County has granted authorization for the 2024 Hay City Road Race to undertake intermittent traffic stoppages during the May 11 cycling event.

The stoppages will take place on Township Road 332, Range Road 23 and Township Road 340 during the day of the event, which is expected to run from about 9 a.m. to about 3 p.m.

The race itself from the Hainstock Community Hall on Township Road 332 then travels east on Range Road 23, west on Township Road 340 and then south on Highway 766 prior to returning to Hainstock Hall.

Organizers have met all the requirements of the county’s road rally application form, including the provision of acceptable insurance coverage and a traffic accommodation plan, council heard.

The Hay City Road Race is organized by the BICI Sport Cycling Club from Calgary, a member of the Alberta Bicycling Association.

The club hopes to donate about $2,500 to the Mountain View Emergency Shelter Society in 2024, up from $1,250 in 2023.
