Dog Pound Stampede Rodeo attracts big crowd, slate of competitors

Moment of silence held for rodeo friend and past competitor Bryn Theissen who died Jan. 16 at the age of 63

MOUNTAIN VIEW COUNTY - Taking advantage of hot and sunny summer weather, about 1,200 people of all ages attended the 118th annual Dog Pound Stampede Rodeo on Wednesday, July 17.

Committee member Patricia McKean says the number of guests at this year's Foothills Cowboy Association event was roughly equal to last year’s total.

In all, 166 competitors took part in the 2024 rodeo.

She said there was a lot of good competition, including from area contestants.

The unofficial results of the rodeo are as follows:

Bareback - Jace Lomheim scored a 71 on Crossfire to win.

Bull riding - Kane Scott scored a 71 on Bullseye to win.

Junior break-away - Kash Ziebarth had a 3.26 time to win.

Junior bull riding - Glen Erickson had a 64 score on Jake the Snake to win.

Junior steer riding - Josh McCartney and Koaltyn Ogilvie tied for first with 75 scores.

Novice horse riding - Peter Duffy scored a 64 on Rocky Mountain Stomper to win.

Ranch broncs - Tyler Ritchie scored a 72.5 to win.

Saddle bronc - Cache Schellenberg scored a 79 on Gin Rummy to win.

Steer wrestling - Garrett Zieffle had a 4.9 second time to win.

Tie down roping - Zieffle had a 10.8 second time to win.

Team roping - Brady Van Gelderen and Kevin Perrot had an 8.6 second time to win.

There was no ladies barrel racing event.

The Dog Pound Ranch Rodeo was held the day previous on the Tuesday and was also well attended, McKean said.

The Dog Pound Stampede Rodeo is held southwest of Cremona in Mountain View County.
