MOUNTAIN VIEW COUNTY - About 800 people attended the 115th annual Dogpound Stampede Rodeo last week, enjoying fine weather and great action in both roughstock and timed events, say organizers.
Rodeo secretary Patricia McKean said both the main Foothills Cowboys Association rodeo on Wednesday and the Ranch Rodeo on Tuesday were hits with visitors and competitors alike.
“Everything went really well,” said McKean. “There was quite a few local participants and a lot of great competition.”
Armando Davila and Griffin Koester tied for top spot in bull riding with 69 scores.
Keegan Elder won the bareback event with a 66 score.
Jake Henry won the saddle bronc with a 73 score, followed by Adrian Hemart with a 64 score.
Adam Shuckburgh and Kyle Foden tied for top stop in tie down roping with 8.5 second runs. Pablo Robles took third with an 8.9 second run.
Keenan Crane won the steer wrestling event with a 6.2 second run.
Glen Erickson won the junior steer riding event with a 71 score, followed by Noah Calf Robe with a 70 and Holden Atkinson with a 69.5.
Erik Veraeghe and Travis Lundberg won the wild cow milking event, followed by Clint Holmes and James Hensen.
The team of Andrea Newsome, Harper Walker and Paige Aarsby won the wild pony racing event, followed by the team of Leah Newsome, Kaislee Zeibarth and Havana Aarsby.
Tuesday’s Ranch Rodeo featured 10, four-member teams competing in five events, including team sorting and branding. The Havens team from Madden won the buckle.
McKean commended the sponsors, many from the district, for supporting the event.
The Dogpound Stampede Rodeo is the longest running rodeo in Alberta, she said.
