MOUNTAIN VIEW COUNTY - County council has approved an amendment to the General Traffic Bylaw No. 03/21 regarding the removal of things such as firewood from road right-of-ways.
The move came by way of motion at the recent regularly scheduled council meeting.
Under the change to Section 9.12, a permit is now required to take identified forest products from county property or road right-of-ways.
The updated bylaw now reads, in part, that, “No person without the consent of the county or in the case of forestry products being removed from provincial lands without receiving a personal use forest products permit, shall take material from county property or road right-of-ways.”
Materials identified in the bylaw are “lumber, firewood, materials or equipment from any county park, as well as gravel, sand, rock or screenings from any gravel pit under the jurisdiction of the county without first obtaining a gravel permit or any other material or property from any county property.”
At the May 12 council meeting council requested clarification on Section 9.12 regarding the use of timber on county road allowances, said Chris Atchison, director of legislative services.
Coun. Al Kemmere had raised the issue as a discussion matter at that time.
During the recent council meeting, Coun. Kemmere said, “The intent of this (amendment) was to try and clarify the process that people needed in order to remove lumber from either county land or road allowances, which can be undeveloped road allowances that require provincial approval.”
All councillors were present at the recent council meeting.
