MOUNTAIN VIEW COUNTY - Peace officers patrolled more than 41,000 kilometres of roadways in Mountain View County in the past quarter with numerous traffic infractions noted including speeding, according to the county's legislative, community and agricultural services department report.
The report, prepared by director Chris Atchison, was presented to council at a recent, regularly-scheduled council meeting, held in person and online.
County peace officers conducted 30 commercial vehicle stops in the quarter, including 27 for speeding violations, one warning for speeding, three documentation violations, and eight equipment violations.
As well, 57 general traffic stops were made across the county, with one speeding stop in the Hainstock district for 63 kilometres/hour over, 62 over in Westcott, 60 over in Lonepine, 58 over in Jackson, and 57 over in Wessex.
Hainstock, Wessex and Jackson saw the most stops during the quarter.
High priority duties for the officers included commercial vehicle compliance monitoring, speed compliance, seatbelt compliance, and fire bylaw complaint investigations.
Meanwhile, fire departments responded to more than 120 calls in the county during the quarter: 42 by the Sundre department, 26 by Cremona, 23 by Olds, 21 by Didsbury, and 17 by Carstairs.
The calls included 62 for medical, 22 for motor vehicle collisions, and nine for structure fires.
The report also included an update on county day-use areas.
“There parks saw good use through the summer, however, there was some vandalism, with wrecked picnic tables and a couple of fires at Bagnall Park. ‘No fire’ signs have been ordered in an attempt to raise awareness of the no fires allowed in day use areas policy.”
Council accepted the report as information.
