MOUNTAIN VIEW COUNTY - County council has been updated on recent activities of area fire departments, which included responding to 36 motor vehicle collisions in the third quarter of 2021.
In his quarterly report to council, Chris Atchison, director of legislative, community and agricultural services, outlined the activities of the Didsbury, Cremona, Carstairs and Olds departments from July to September.
He told council that the statistics outlined in the report were provided to the county by each department.
The Didsbury department responded to a total of 65 calls in the three months outlined in the report.
Those calls included 17 alarms, 13 EMS calls, three electrical hazard calls, one gas leak, six mutual aid calls, 10 motor vehicle collisions, four outside fires, three structure fires, five vehicle fires and three woodland fires.
The Carstairs department responded to 79 calls, including nine fire alarms, six grass fires, 16 medical assists, 17 medical first responses, five mutual aid, 12 motor vehicle collisions, three structure fires, three vehicle fires, and three controlled burns.
The Cremona department responded to 39 calls, including 20 medical, three fire, six motor vehicle collisions, five alarms, one gas leak and two rescue calls.
The Olds department responded to 31 rural calls, including five fire responses, five property fires, eight vehicle collisions and nine medical calls. The department responded to 66 urban calls during the same period.
Atchison’s report also included recent peace officer patrol statistics, including the issuing of 131 tickets in the third quarter. Top offences included stops for 93 kilometres an hour over the speed limit in Fallentimber, 72 over in Rosebud, 72 over in Westcott, and 65 over in Dogpound.
Grant funding allocation approved to date include $153,785 Cremona recreation board $6,498 crime prevention, $96,460 FCSS, $43,480 health, $54,125 rural community grants, $61,557 rural community halls, $13,029 for ALUS/REEP, $10,000 cemetery funding, $6,000 citizenship awards and $31,350 transportation.
