MOUNTAIN VIEW COUNTY — County council has approved the allocation of $83,795 realized from the 2020 fire tanker disposal auction. The move came by way of motion at the recent regularly scheduled council meeting.

In 2020, the county purchased four fire tankers to distribute to the Carstairs, Cremona, Didsbury and Olds fire departments.

“Subsequently, three (older) fire tankers were forwarded to auction for disposal, with the fourth being retained for the short term to ensure all warranty work on the new tankers is adequately completed,” administration said in a briefing note to council.

The auction resulted in total sales of $83,795.

The Cremona small capital equipment plan currently includes the purchase of hydraulic extraction tools at a cost of $120,000.

Administration recommended that the revenue be allocated to the fire reserve to be used in 2022, upon receiving necessary budget approvals, to be used to offset the increase to the Cremona plan rather than funding the increase through the 2022 operating budget to minimize the impact of the one year increase.

Council passed motion approving the allocation as recommended.
