MOUNTAIN VIEW COUNTY - The county has downgraded a fire ban put in place last month to a fire restriction throughout the municipality effective immediately, officials said Tuesday.
Under the fire restriction, the only fires permitted are cooking food using a barbecue, fires contained with an acceptable fire pit or acceptable fireplace, burning burnable debris in an acceptable burning barrel, fires set by fire services for training purposes, fires that are fuelled by compressed gas, recreational fires, and any fire deemed by a district fire chief to not require a permit.
“All users are required to review Mountain View County’s fire bylaw for definitions, regulations on barrels and fire pits and other restrictions that may affect their anticipated fire,” said Jeff Holmes, the county's chief administrative officer.
The county put a fire ban in place on Sept. 2 in response to dry conditions.
The new fire restriction will remain in effect until further notice, he said.
