MOUNTAIN VIEW COUNTY - The county's operational services department has outlined proposed projects for 2022 totalling $12.8 million.
The estimates are part of the multi-department, 2022 projects budget presented to council at the recent regularly scheduled council meeting.
The operational services plan outlines projects for roads, bridge, gravelling and other undertakings, and includes the following:
• The re-gravelling program has a proposed budget of $1.6 million, including $74,000 from the aggregate levy. “The service level is based on a spread rate of 222 tonnes/kilometre (km) and an average road width of eight metres,” said Jeff Holmes, the county's chief administrative officer. “Maps of the re-gravelling program are created by the local grader operators and submitted to the foreman; final maps provided to council in the spring.”
• The re-chipping program has a proposed budget of $1.5 million. “Operational services intends to re-chip its hard surfaced chip seal road inventory every seven years. In 2022, this will be 121.6 km.”
• The base stabilization program has a proposed budget of $1.1 million. “This program takes existing chip seal roads that are no longer meeting service expectations due to the surface conditions or base failure and revitalizes them,” he said.
• The gravel pit engineering program has a proposed budget of $60,000. “The county has to continually update our pit plans to stay current with Alberta Environment codes of practice to operate its gravel pits. In 2022 the county needs to submit an updated pit plan for the Bergen Pit and the Kammrath-Bartles Pit.”
• The gravel pit reclamation program has a proposed budget of $870,000. “In 2022, operational services plan to begin reclamation of the McDougal Pit, as well as some cleanup and minor reclamation in the Bergen Pit.”
• The Twp. Rd. 322 overlay project has a proposed budget of $1.03 million. “Twp. Rd. 322, between Highway 2A and Rge. Rd. 20, is an asphalt road that has reached the end of its service life. In order to maintain the road, an asphalt overlay is required.”
Meanwhile, the 2022 equipment replacement program has a budget of $2.3 million, and includes purchase of two graders and one wheel loader.
The capital bridge program has a proposed budget of $2.4 million, and includes engineering for bridge replacement at Carstairs Beaverdam Creek, culvert replacement at Olds Creek, bridge replacement at Didsbury Lonepine Creek, and culvert replacement at Carstairs tributary Lonepine Creek.
The 2022 projects budget would have to be approved by motion of council for the projects to go ahead.
