Water Valley reception centre for MD Bighorn evacuees open until 11 p.m.

MOUNTAIN VIEW COUNTY –   A reception centre for Municipal District of Bighorn wildfire evacuees opened at the Water Valley Community Hall Tuesday night.

“Staff are on-site to assist evacuated community members and is ready now,” Mountain View County posted on social media just before 8:30 p.m. on July 23.

Mountain View County says the centre is open to provide shelter and assistance until 11 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday, July 24 from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m.

Shortly before 8 p.m. Tuesday, the Municipal District of Bighorn alerted residents to an out-of-control wildfire approximately 25 kilometres west of Water Valley in the Municipal District of Bighorn.

“All persons in the area of closure need to evacuate immediately,” the municipality advised.

Mountain View County officials emphasized at the time of posting that Mountain View County is not affected by the wildfire.

However, the county encourages those outside the evacuation area to stay vigilant and stay informed.
