PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Don Read, the former Montana football coach who retired after leading the Grizzlies to their first national title in 1995, died Wednesday, four days before the school plays for a third national title. He was 90.

DALLAS, Texas (AP) — Trailblazing longtime U.S. Rep. Eddie Bernice Johnson, a nurse from Texas who helped bring hundreds of millions of federal dollars to the Dallas area as the region's most powerful Democrat, died Sunday. She was 89.

ARLINGTON, Mass. (AP) — Rayner Pike, a retired reporter for The Associated Press who contributed his encyclopedic knowledge of news and crafty writing skills to some of New York City's biggest stories for over four decades, has died. He was 90.

EDMONTON — Dennis Edney, a lawyer who played a critical role in the release of former Guantanamo Bay prisoner Omar Khadr, has died at 77. An obituary published in the Edmonton Journal said Edney had dementia and died Saturday.

NEW YORK (AP) — Gus Alfieri, a standout basketball player at St. John's who later became a very successful high school coach and an author, has died. He was 87. St. John's said a family member informed the school that Alfieri died Monday.

GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) — Ken Bowman, who played center for the Green Bay Packers from 1964-73 and was part of three consecutive championship teams, has died. He was 81.

CLEVELAND (AP) — Frank Ryan wasn't your average NFL quarterback. His arm helped make the Cleveland Browns champions. His intellect earned him wider acclaim off the field.

JERUSALEM (AP) — Zvi Zamir, a former director of Israel’s Mossad spy service who warned that Israel was about to be attacked on the eve of the 1973 Mideast war, has died, the Israeli prime minister’s office announced Tuesday. He was 98.

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (AP) — Basdeo Panday, a former prime minister of Trinidad and Tobago who was the first person of Indian descent to hold that position, has died. He was 90.

PHOENIX (AP) — Klee Benally, a Navajo man who advocated on behalf of Indigenous people and environmental causes, has died, his sister said. He was 48 years old. Benally died Saturday at a Phoenix hospital, Jeneda Benally said.
