April 1, 1939 - August 17, 2020
Mr. Frederick Ernest Bennett passed away with his family by his side at the Red Deer Regional Hospital on August 17, 2020 at the age of 81 years.
Fred was born April 1, 1939 at Innisfail, Alberta the youngest son of John and Elsie Bennett. He took his schooling until Grade 8 at Pleasant Valley and graduated from Lindsey Thurber in 1957. Fred worked for the Department of Highways, building Highway 2a from Red Deer to Lacombe. He also worked for Canada Post for three years until he started farming in 1961. He was a Director of the United Grain Growers for a number of years as well as serving on the KneeHill Valley Community Center Board and Caretaking of the KneeHill Valley Divide Cemetery for many years.
Fred married the love of his life Florence ‘Florrie’ Houcher on June 19, 1965. Together they farmed until 2008 when he retired, allowing them more time to travel and see the world. His favorite destination was Maui, Hawaii.
Fred will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Florrie, his son, Darcy (Paula) of Innisfail, Alberta, and his son, Kevin (Denise) of Innisfail, Alberta as well as three grandchildren, Ayden (Mikayla) of Campbell River, British Columbia, Samantha (Elise) of Edmonton, Alberta, and Melissa of Innisfail, Alberta. He will also be lovingly remembered by his brother, Wilf (Marg), and sister in -law, Donna, and numerous nieces and nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by his parents, John and Elsie, his sisters, Norma and Doris, his brother Bill and brother in law Vern, and his special Uncle Glen. A Private Family Gathering will be held at the Innisfail Cemetery.
