July 23, 1961 - May 12, 2020
It is with great sadness that the family of Lorne Patrick Buchs announces his passing on May 12, 2020, age 58, after a courageous battle against cancer.
Lorne was born in Olds, Alberta on July 23, 1961 to Charlie and Doris Buchs, and grew up west of Cremona on the Farm. One of his first jobs was driving a gravel truck, and he continued his love of trucks and hauling things throughout his life. Lorne and Laurie met in 1981, he became an operator for Procor, and that took them to Fox Creek from 1988-1992. They returned to Cremona in 1992 to work for Shell Shantz. He enjoyed playing hockey, slo-pitch on a team with his brothers, sisters, stepsons and nieces, golf, taking trips to Manitoba with Laurie to visit her family (and golf, do some canning, and come home in a different truck), and driving tractor. Lorne retired early in 2018 to finally be able to enjoy farming with Mona and Curtis. He was diagnosed with cancer in the fall of 2018, and battled hard with unfailing faith and optimism right to the end.
Lorne was known by all for his sense of humor, his jokes with the waitresses wherever he and Laurie had lunch. His love of the Calgary Flames without fail. His help-you knew that if you asked him for assistance, he would say yes: whether it was to shovel the neighbors walk, join a game of crib at the 5-0, or pick you up off the side of road. His joy in farming, driving the tractor, hauling hay, and being with his family.
Lorne is survived by, and leaves to mourn all that knew and loved him: but especially his wife of 39 years Laurie Lashmore, his stepsons Keith and John Lashmore. His brothers and sisters: Ellen (Bob) Teynor, Bertha Taks, Ada (Larry) Taks, Walter (Jacqui) Young, Kathy Buchs, Mona Buchs, and Curtis Buchs-and all of the extended family members. Special friends Randy and Glenda Dewdney. Predeceased by his nephew Kyle, his mom Doris Buchs, brother in law George Taks, and his dad Charlie Buchs.
The family wishes to thank the Sundre Hospital nurses for their exceptional care, Dr. Michelle Warren and the team at the Moose and Squirrel Medical clinic. The homecare nurses out of Didsbury. Dr. McColl, Dr. Maiers and the oncology team in Red Deer. The neighbours and friends and family that gave assistance through the battle.
No celebration of life will be held at this time, due to current events. Family and friends will gather at a later date when it is safe for all to attend.
