December 19, 1947 – October 29, 2021

Dennis Arthur Chrest, a true gentleman with a contagious smile passed away surrounded by family in Calgary, AB on October 29, 2021 at the age of 73. He is greatly missed by his wife.

Brenda, sons Shelby and Darby (deceased), granddaughters Kennedy and Keaton along with siblings Bud Chrest (Judy), Larry Chrest (Barb), Peggy Vooys (Garry) and Gene Chrest (Judi). This kind and supportive man is also remembered by his extended family and many friends.

Dennis grew up in Sundre, AB, known by many from that area as Denny, he would move to Olds in 1974 with his beautiful bride of 47 years Brenda and soon thereafter start their family. As a proud father of two boys, Dennis was always very involved and never missed an opportunity to share a teachable moment, which we later realized was his way of building the foundation for respect, love and family for generations to come. Dennis was a prominent figure in the Olds business community for many years through his time at Meyers Mens Wear and later Marlec Agencies.

He took great pride in helping people dress well, when you look good, you feel good would describe the pride Dennis took in his men’s wear career. Dennis had an interest in all sports, while a basketball star in his youth he quickly developed a passion for golf as a young man, not just playing but also a love for teaching golf. His patience and sense of humor made the experience most memorable for many would be golfers over the years. Something Dennis took great pride in achieving. Golf was a more than just a hobby for Dennis, competing in and winning many championships became common place for Dennis in his younger years and later on partnered with his wife Brenda in winning many mixed championships. He would often comment on how lucky he was to have a wife that wanted to golf with him every day, and that they did, together and often.

Upon retirement Dennis was able to spend quality time with his two beautiful granddaughters, Kennedy and Keaton. Truly a man made for the role of Grandpa, whether it was playing dress up, sneaking extra cookies or cheerleading from the stands, he wasn’t an All-State Grandpa, he wasn’t an All-American Grandpa, he was an All-World Grandpa and loved every minute of it. Dennis and his warm hugs, sense of humor, love for family and genuine conversation will be lovingly remembered and missed by many for years to come.
